Endocrinology is a field of medical science dealing with the body's hormone-producing glands, e.g., thyroid, pituitary and adrenal glands. These glands help control basic body functions e.g., metabolism, cell growth and sexual development. Physicians who specialize in this field are referred to as endocrinologists. These specialists take care of patients who have hormone problems, as well as treat some of the serious problems associated with diabetes.
